Tests such as the Bayley Scales or the Mullens Scales assess
the development of infants and toddlers. These assessments can
determine whether developmental milestones are being attained on
time, and whether a baby needs remedial interventions. Although
these tests are similar to intelligence tests, and may predict
mental retardation, there is generally very little relationship
between a score on such a test and later IQ scores. The tests
only give a picture of an infant's current mental and motor
development.
